SECOND SEMESTER SCHEDULE

 

 

Wednesday 5/14:

  • HTV DUE DATE MOVED TO WEDNESDAY. Thank Amanda S. & Jason.
    • I'll still review what you have on Monday for free if you wish
  • Check out the LAST PPT oF tHe YeAr!!!
  • Check out the REVIEW QUESTIONS I have posted here. They'll help for the Final!!
  • INFO ON BONUSES FOR FINAL!!Check this to be sure you understand.
  • Review it & know that only a few things will be on the test but ALL is IMPORTANT TO KNOW!!!
  • Be sure to have your HTV done by Monday. Nobody's convinced me to delay it until Wednesday of next week yet!!

 

Monday 5/12:

  • Double check the instructions for the Final HTV assignment (I added a small piece for you to turn in & want you to be sure you know what your focus is supposed to be..."What does it mean to be an American?"
  • Review your notes so your ready for the final exam.

    • Monday 5/19: HTV due & Review day
    • Wednesday 5/21: Final exam
    • Thursday 5/22: check out and BATTLE OF THE GRADES!! Woo hoo!

 

 

 

Wednesday 5/7:

  • Be sure you got all of the info from the PowerPoint on the Civil Rights Movement. If not, view it here.
  • Get crack-a-lack-in on your Final HTV Project

 

Monday 5/5:

  • Complete the new Civil Rights packet by the start of Wednesday's class (except the ONE page that requires the text)
  • Begin planning your FINAL HTV PROJECT

     

 

 

Monday 4/21:

  • Study & review ALL packets & worksheets you've received lately. Keep the info fresh!
  • Check out the following website. It provides links to look deeper into each of the historical references in Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire"
  • Just for giggles, check out this UPDATED version of Billy Joel's song to include more modern references (and some really lousy singing)

 

 

Wednesday 4/16:

  • Complete the new packet for Ch. 19. Do ALL of it EXCEPT the first page (which will require use of your book)
  • Review the last packet and the Korean War Play-By-Play Worksheet

 

Monday 4/14:

  • Complete the first five pages (2 1/2 sheets) of the packet dealing with the 1950s.  This packet will be checked in class first thing on Wednesday April 16, 2008

 

 

NO HOMEWORK OVER BREAK. REST UP & COME BACK HUNGRY TO LEARN FOR A FEW SHORT WEEKS MORE!!!!

  • All students who missed the trial and have a paper to write for me STILL NEED TO FINISH THAT OVER BREAK! THAT'S IT THOUGH.
  • TURN THAT PAPER IN WHEN WE GET BACK AFTER SPRING BREAK!!!

 

 

Monday 3/24:

  • Write a short, 1 page evaluation of how you & your group did. Please note for me any people you feel were a particular help or hindrance to this process.
  • Note: this will be for my benefit & will assist me in assigning proper grade. I will NOT be sharing any of the information you give me with other students.
  • STUDENTS WHO MISSED THE TRIAL OR PREP TIME: Your 2-3 page paper is due by the end of the week (before eWeek & Spring Break)

 

 Monday 3/17: 

  • CHANGE OF PLANS:  ALL 3 TRIALS WILL BE HELD ON THE SAME DAY, Monday MARCH 24th
  • everything else proceeds as planned. Be ready!!

 

Wednesday 3/12:

  1. Working on essay due Monday 3/17
  2. Working on prep for A-Bomb Trial
  3. ASK YOUR PARENTS TO HELP OUT BY SERVING AS JURORS!!
    • They can be jurors for any block...not just yours

       

    • Extra credit for you if they do help!!!!

Monday 3/10:

 

  1. Review your notes from class.
  2. ESSAY due MONDAY 3/17.  No specific length requirement but should be about a page long
  3. Write your essay answering the following prompt:
    •  “Do Not Stand Idly By”

      What does that mean to you? In answering this, you may describe a person you admire for their moral courage. 

       

      Moral courage is the ability to take a strong stance on a specific issue and to defend it based on one’s personal beliefs or convictions regardless of danger or threats to personal safety.

       

      This can be a person you know, a person living or dead, famous or not.  You may do research or speak from your own experience. Please keep in mind though, that the theme must somehow relate to the Holocaust either in its content or in its conclusion.

      You can also enter your response in the City of Greeley Holocaust Memorial Essay Contest 2008. Click here for details!!!

       

 

Wednesday 3/5:

  • Answer/ outline the following questions for discussion on Monday. YES, ON PAPER & not just in your head.
    1. What were the causes of World War II?
    2. What were the teams? Who fought? Key figures?
    3. What new developments came about in technology/ weapons/ strategies/ tactics?
    4. What key events occurred during the war?
    5. What were the results? What changed?
  • Complete your 2nd set of objective question answers (again, this will average with the 1st set)
    • ONLY Questions 1-60! Do not do any of the DBQ's or the essay again!

       

    • DUE FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING...NO EXCUSES OR EXCEPTIONS!...IF YOU CAN'T BE HERE, HAVE SOMEONE BRING IT IN FOR YOU!!!

 

Wednesday 2/27: 

  • Complete HTV projects...DUE MONDAY 3/3
  • Study for Unit Test on Wednesday 3/5
  • STUDY STUDY STUDY!!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

 

 

Monday 2/25:

  • If you are doing the OPTIONAL HTV project for Unit 4, you should have already gotten started! Remember, it is due March 3!

 

Friday 2/22:

  1. Complete pages 42 and 53 in your new packets
  2. Review your notes from "Causes of Great Depression" discussion
  3. Review notes from the Hoover & Great Depression ppt
  4. BE SURE you are checking your notes regularly...they will come in "very handy" for the upcoming Unit test.

 

Wednesday 2/20:

  1. Get caught up if you missed any classes.
  2. Start working on your HTV Unit 4 IF YOU WANT TO!
  3. Review the HTV Tutorial on this site & give me feedback!

 

 

 

Wednesday 2/13:

  1. REVIEW your notes over the weekend.
  2. WATCH & TAKE NOTES on the following PowerPoints

     

    • QUIZ OVER THIS MATERIAL ON WEDNESDAY 2/20!!!

 

Monday 2/11:

  1. DO YOUR READING!! Quiz on Wednesday...
  2. ANSWER the questions & WRITE the autobiographical essay.
  3. REVIEW your Presidents packet AND your notes from class. RETAKE on Monday's quiz
  4. START considering the next OPTIONAL HTV assignment...DUE the last week of February.

 

 

Wednesday 2/6/08

  1. Complete your paper for your the topic you chose today in class (either a person or fad of the 1920s).  The paper is due at the beginning of class on Monday February 11, 2008.  Make sure you fulfill all of the requirements on that sheet.  Prepare and Practice for your presentation that you will give in class on Monday February 11, 2008.  Remember you need at least one visual aid.
  2. Study the Presidents Packet for President Wilson through President Hoover for quiz on Wednesday February 13, 2008.  Trust me you will want to have another quiz after some of the scores you got today (2/6/08).  :(  Another quiz will help your grade.  We will discuss on Monday.

 

Monday 2/4:

  1. Read/Reread the Chapter 12 Packet (Pages #412-427), highlight/take notes on packet, come ready to discuss Section 3 as well as the clips from Cars on Wednesday February 6, 2008.  Don't be suprised if you see a quiz on all of Chapter 12 on Wednesday.
  2. Continue Studying the President Packet for President Wilson through President Hoover for quiz on Wednesday February 6, 2008.

 

Wednesday 1/30/08

   1. Read the Chapter 12 Packet (Pages #412-427), highlight/take notes on packet, come ready to

       discuss on Monday February 4, 2008.

        Wednesday February 6, 2008.

 

      Topics for Monday:

     Postwar American Issues, President's Harding and Coolidge, and America begins to roar to the

     sound of CARS.

  1. Complete Worksheet (all that we covered in class...believe me, I know where I left off in class so get all you can done.)
  2. Complete/ work on your HTV projects.
  3. Start reviewing notes to be ready for Unit 3 Test on Wed. 1/30)

 

Wed 1/16:

  1. Panama Canal worksheets (don't need to answer the questions or do the clay project)
  2. Review President packet (This will be quizzed on pretty soon but not Wed. Just start reading it.
  3. Research Project. DUE WEDNESDAY!!!

  2. NEW RESEARCH PAPER DUE 1/23
    • Prompt: We are in the middle of yet another Presidential election, and once again we are hearing about a number of political, social, and economic issues we face as Americans. Your task is to compare and contrast the issues Americans faced in two time periods (1877 - 1910 and 1980 - 2008). Find and discuss three issues America/Americans faced in both time periods, as well as three ways that the issues this country faces have changed significantly in that span of time.
    • PAPER SHOULD BE 3 PAGES IN LENGTH and PROPERLY FORMATTED (double-check your writing manuals for any necessary clarification).
    • Sources: You must use AND CITE at least five sources in this paper. Include a properly formatted Works Cited page with your paper.

       

M 1/7: No new Homework. JUST FINISH YOUR DIARAMAS (& PAPER THAT GOES WITH IT)

 

W 12/5:

  1. Write a 1 page response to the journal prompt for class today:
    • "Why is the myth of a cowboy so important to the American Character?

                            How is he responsible for “what it means to be an American?

      2. Continue working on your new video project, due at the end of the semester.

 

 

M 12/3:

  • Review UPDATED HTV forms on main page. Reworded to clarify even more.
  • PROJECT DUE BY END OF SEMESTER:
    • Create a movie/mpg/etc. file
      • use Windows Movie Maker...unless you have already used another program successfully
      • You may NOT use PowerPoint this time.
    • Choose ANY song you wish
    • Choose ANY theme/pictures/etc. you wish.
    • This must include:
      • Pictures/video clips
      • Song file
      • transitions
      • Video effects
      • Text/overlay (words on clips/pictures)
    • You DO NOT NEED to include a Works Cited page THIS TIME ONLY
    • You get the points when I get the assignment

M 11/12:

  3. Presidency research (DUE MONDAY 10/29):
    • Write a 1-2 page (2-3 for Block 4) summary of ALL 3 of the following arguments, choosing one to agree with in the end:
      • "George Washington truly was the first President of the United States."
      • "John Hanson was the first President of the United States."
      • "Someone other than Washington or Hanson was the first President of the United States."
    • WHAT YOU WILL TURN IN ON MONDAY:
      • Copy of notes (printed & highlighted OR handwritten are both ok) from all 10 sources
      • 1-2 page paper
      • Works Cited page
        • YOU MUST INCLUDE & CITE ON A SEPARATE PAGE AT LEAST 10 total websites AND BOOKS.
        • Cite your sources WELL!!!
    • What do I do for research?
      • Start by doing a Google search using a few of the following phrases:
        • "american presidents"  |  "first american presidents"  |   "United States presidents"  | etc.
        • If something doesn't produce results, try another phrase
        • If you think of other phrases you think will help produce results, try them!

  1. COMPLETE TEST CORRECTIONS to be turned in on Wednesday! Last time this changes, I promise. Have 'em done!

  4. Start memorizing your president packet...assignment and test over it in your near future!
  5. Get ready with your reasons for the Broncos collapse on Sunday...I'm anxious to hear them.

  1. Prepare a presentation on your explorer. Presentation needs to be CREATIVE!!!  50 points DUE WEDNESDAY 8/22
  • Cover the basic biographical details about the explorer (5 w's)
  • Explain what important historical contributions were made by your explorer

W    8/15:   

  1. Write a one page paper on "What Does It Mean to Be an American?" You must also choose ONE visual aid that you wish to incorporate into your presentation on Friday. DUE 8/17
  2. Print syllabus, show to parents, have them sign Student/ Parent Contract.
  3. Bring printed syllabus to class along with SIGNED contract.  DUE BY CLASS ON 8/24
