Monday 3/24:
Order of trial and helpful hints.
1. Bailiff will call court in session and Judge will give a short explanation to the court room on the court case and the proceedings.
2. Prosecution Attorney(Alysha) will give opening statement for 2-4 minutes.
3. Defense Attorney (Ashley) will give opening statement/rebuttal for 2-4 minutes.
4. Prosecution will call their witnesses in the following order and each should be questioned for 3-5 minutes:
A. Sawachika-Dylan
B. Hatchobori-Asley Davis
C. Akihiro Takahashi-Hannah
D. Isaw Kita-Ryan
E. Eisenhower-Cody
F. Stimson-Angelica
After each witness is questioned by prosecution they then will be cross examined by the defense.
5. Defense will then call their witnesses in the following order and each should be questioned for 3-5 minutes:
A. Truman-Nikki
B. Sakomizu-Michael
C. Marshall-Alan
D. Hirohito/Showa-Andy
E. MacArthur-Nathan
F. Compton-Danielle
After each witness is questioned by the defense they then will be cross examined by the prosecution.
6. There will be a 5 minute recess so the group can prep closing statements and have the attorney's present to the court room.
7. After closing statements jury will be dismissed for deliberation and return with a verdict.
Helpful hints based off what I saw from the other classes:
1. As attorney's you should have a strong opening statement that is rehearsed, sounds clear, and makes a definite argument you are going to try to prove throughout the case.
2. As a witness you need to absolutely prepare for your part meaning know every piece of research information that is on your person. Many students in the other classes were not prepared for the cross examination and questions they were asked. Anticipate questions.
3. Announce names of the witness when calling them to the stand. Example: Don't say I am calling Dylan to the stand.
4. You need to be able to explain answers to questions. Yes or No does nothing to explain your answer.
5. Educate the jury. They are running under the assumption that they know nothing. Example: Don't just bring up the Manhattan Project without explaining what that is.
6. You can pass notes with cross examination questions that you want your attorney to ask.
7. As attorney's you have the ability to drill witnesses. You should have prepared questions for every witness that you will cross examine, meaning you need to know information about them.
8. Dress as how you might have looked.
9. Relax when on the stand-speak loudly and clearly and breathe to stay calm.
10. Remember you are ultimately performing and trying to swing the jury on whether it was right or wrong to drop the bombs on Japan.
Monday 3/17:
1. A-Bomb Trial for our class has been moved to Wednesday March 26th, 2008 due to the high amount of people absent on Monday.
2. By this Monday 3/24 each side should have all their evidence gathered, each witness should have written out their questions and answers, and attorney's should have written out opening statements. You will be behind if this is not done.
3. On Monday be prepared to do a dry-run of your side of the trial. REMEMBER THIS IS YOUR TEST GRADE FOR WORLD WAR II.

What does that mean to you? In answering this, you may describe a person you admire for their moral courage. This can be a person you know, a person living or dead, famous or not. You may do research or speak from your own experience. Please keep in mind though, that the theme must somehow relate to the Holocaust either in its content or in its conclusion.
